Guo Jian (b.1962, Guizhou, China) is a leading Chinese Australian artist. His work is heavily influenced by the political upheaval and violent culture in China, a period that includes the Cultural Revolution, the Sino-Vietnamese war, and the Tiananmen Square massacre. His recent series concerns waste that generates from China’s ongoing social development and its impact on the environment and human spirit.

Guo Jian’s works are collected by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of Queensland, Brisbane; White Rabbit Gallery, Sydney; Casula Powerhouse, Sydney; Geoff Raby Collection of Chinese Art, Melbourne; Australian Centre on China in the World, Canberra; Campbelltown City Bicentennial Art Gallery, Sydney; and Global Resources, Los Angeles, among others.
